Current Codes
Avondale Development Services currently announces adoption of the 2024 ICC codes and 2023 National Electrical Code. Use the City's current code and amendment material for the exact provisions applicable to a project.
Permits and Inspections
Avondale states that its building inspectors check construction for conformance with approved plans and applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, zoning, and sign requirements. Permits are not finalized until required inspections are completed and construction is approved.
The City's current inspection page says requests received before 3:00 p.m. are scheduled for the next business day; inspections are conducted Monday through Thursday, excluding City holidays. Work should not be concealed before the required inspection.
Permit Activity and Expiration
Avondale states that a building permit becomes valid after associated fees are paid. Its inspection guidance also says permits expire when no inspection has been requested and approved within 180 days of issuance, or when work is inactive for 180 days.
Fees and Occupancy
The City's FY 2026 rates and fees schedule, effective September 1, 2025, publishes building-permit and related charges, including project-specific permit categories and Certificate of Occupancy-related fees. Use that current schedule rather than a generic valuation percentage. Fee totals vary by scope.
Arizona Professional Design Rules
Arizona's Board of Technical Registration regulates architects and professional engineers and has rules governing seals and their use. Arizona also provides statutory exemptions for some work, so this guide does not state that every permit requires a professional seal.
