Building Permits in Tracy

The City of Tracy Building Safety Division administers building permits and plan review.

Codes and applications

Effective January 1, 2026, Tracy requires new submittals to comply with the 2025 California Building Codes. Building permit applications and applicable plans/supporting documents are submitted to Building Safety under the City's electronic process.

Fees

Tracy requires the plan-check fee to be paid before plan review begins. The remaining permit fees are due at permit issuance and may be paid through eTRAKiT or at City Hall. Actual fees depend on permit scope and the City's current schedule; no generic plan-check percentage is stated here.

Inspections

Tracy schedules building inspections through eTRAKiT. Inspection requests submitted online by 5:30 a.m. on the desired inspection date may be scheduled that day; later requests are scheduled for the next business day. This is an inspection cutoff, not a plan-review deadline.

The City inspects regulated work at intervals required by the applicable California codes and approved plans. Changes to approved plans must be approved before inspection of the changed work.
