Vacaville's Community Development Building Division reviews building plans, issues permits and performs building inspections. Building permit submittals are handled electronically through eTRAKiT.

Current code framework

California's 2025 Building Standards Code is the current statewide triennial cycle for applications filed on or after January 1, 2026. Applicants should confirm Vacaville's current local amendments and project-specific code provisions with the Building Division rather than relying on an older permit handout.

Permits and inspections

Vacaville completed its transition to electronic building-permit submittals through eTRAKiT in 2025. Inspections may be scheduled through the City's automated inspection services; the City requires the permit, approved plans and supporting documents to be available on site. All required departmental or outside-agency inspections must be complete before the final building inspection can be scheduled.

The City's Plan Check Express program provides expedited review only for listed eligible minor commercial and residential projects. It is not treated as the normal review time for other permits.

Fees

Vacaville provides an eTRAKiT fee estimator for several new-building and ADU categories, but expressly states that those results are estimates and that actual project fees are determined by Building Division staff at permit approval. No generic fee percentage is stated here.
