Stamford's Building Department administers building permits and publishes its current permit-fee schedule.
Current codes
Connecticut's currently effective 2022 Connecticut State Building Code applies to permit applications filed from October 1, 2022. It is based on the 2021 I-Codes and includes the 2020 NEC. The State's proposed 2026 code had not yet taken effect as of this verification; its expected July 1, 2026 effective date was delayed pending approval.
Fees
Stamford publishes valuation-based fees. Its current page lists residential permits at $13 per $1,000 of construction value with a $60 minimum. Effective July 1, 2026, the City states that commercial structures exceeding $1.3 million in construction value are charged $25 per $1,000, with a $75 minimum, under BOR Resolution 4434. Other commercial applications remain subject to the schedule applicable to their category.
Process and timing
Permit scope, plan requirements and inspections depend on the project and the State Building Code. This page does not assign a generic review duration or universal design-professional requirement where the City's current material does not support one.
