Building Permits in Plantation
Plantation's Department of Building Safety administers permitting, plan review, inspections and building-code enforcement.
Permit scope and code
Plantation states that a permit is required before construction, enlargement, alteration or repair of a building or structure and specifically includes work such as fences, garages, commercial construction, signs and additions. The city enforces the Florida Building Code; the statewide 8th Edition (2023) has been effective since December 31, 2023. Applications and permit status are available through the Citizen Access system.
Inspections and completion
Inspection requests received by 12 noon are scheduled for the next business day; requests after noon are scheduled in two business days or the next available business day. Required inspections vary by construction type. A disapproved inspection carries the city's published $100 reinspection fee, which must be paid before further inspections. Certificate-of-occupancy/pricing services are handled by Building Safety.
Fees
The city publishes its building-permit fee ordinance and notes a $20 application fee plus plan-page processing charges, with other permit charges and surcharges depending on scope. Because the ordinance varies by project type, no generic plan-check percentage or total permit price is stated here.
