Nampa's Building Department within Development Services administers building permits and inspections inside city limits and enforces Idaho-adopted building codes.
Permits and portal
Nampa states that permits are required before new construction, additions, alterations or repairs to existing buildings and structures and for plumbing, electrical or mechanical work. Applications, payments and inspection requests are handled through Citizen Self Service (CSS). The city's commercial guidance lists a narrow exemption for one-story detached accessory structures used as sheds, playhouses or similar uses, with no plumbing, mechanical or electrical scope, when floor area does not exceed 200 square feet.
Inspections and completion
Inspection requests are made through CSS. The city says requests received before midnight are scheduled for the following business day; later requests move to the next business day. Approved permit plans must be available on site. The permit itself lists required inspections and conditions, and failed inspections require correction before approval.
Fees and design documents
Fees are based on the value of work under the City Council-adopted fee schedule. Nampa also publishes a 2026 development-impact-fee schedule. Architectural or engineering documents are not universally required for every permit; Nampa directs applicants to its project-specific policy and applicable state requirements.
