Building Permits in Joliet

Joliet's Building & Inspectional Services Division administers building permits and inspections.

Adopted Codes

Residential Applications

Joliet accepts completed residential permit forms and supporting documents by email or through the Building Department drop box. The city warns that incomplete submissions are returned.

Published Residential Fees

For the residential permit categories identified on the city's current page, the published fee is $65 for work up to $7,000, with $10 per $1,000 of project cost above $7,000. Other permit types use different schedules, so this formula should not be applied universally.

Joliet currently estimates 10 business days for listed categories including driveways, fences, patios, sidewalks, roofing, siding, windows, and above-ground pools. It estimates 15 business days for decks, gazebos, sheds, covered patios, pergolas, and foundation repair. These are city-published estimates, not guaranteed statutory deadlines.
