Building Permits in Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids Building Services administers local building permits and inspections. The City provides a municipal permit viewer for permit status and inspection records.

State and local code framework

Iowa's Department of Inspections, Appeals & Licensing currently identifies the 2024 IBC, 2024 IRC and 2024 IEBC among state-adopted building codes. Iowa electrical requirements changed on June 2, 2026 under HF 2800; the State says the mandatory minimum reverted to the unamended 2023 NEC, except for exclusions and amendments codified in the legislation, until the 2026 NEC is adopted.
