Building Permits in Springfield, Massachusetts

Springfield's Department of Inspectional Services / Building Division issues building, wiring, plumbing, gas and sign permits, performs plan review and on-site inspections, and enforces the Massachusetts State Building Code together with applicable zoning and accessibility requirements.

Permit requirement and state code

The City states that building permits must be obtained before regulated construction begins. Massachusetts uses a statewide building-code framework; because Springfield's forms page still contains legacy references to an older edition, this guide intentionally does not repeat that legacy edition as the current code.
