Building Permits in Lee's Summit

Lee's Summit Development Services administers building permits, plan review and associated construction approvals.

Permits and review

Commercial and residential building permits are handled through Development Services. For commercial permits, the city states that the permit covers the overall project and related private services and is issued to the general contracting company responsible for completion. The city does not charge a separate application or plan-review fee for commercial building permits. A permit application is generally treated as abandoned 180 days after filing if it has not been pursued in good faith or a permit issued.

Fees and inspections

Building permit fees are based on project cost and type of work. The city publishes a $50 minimum permit fee and $50 flat fees for reroof and demolition permits; standard inspections and plan review are included in the building permit fee. Other project-specific charges can apply, so the city's Fee Estimation Tool or Development Services should be used rather than a generic estimate.
