Building Permits in Edinburg
Edinburg's Building Safety Department operates the City's Permit Center and performs inspections for permitted construction. Permit and inspection services are available through the City's Citizen Self-Service Portal and department staff.
Current adopted codes
Edinburg's adopted-code page lists the 2018 IBC, IRC, IPC, IMC, IECC and IFC and the 2017 NEC. The same City page notes the later Texas electrical-code requirement. Because Texas TDLR adopted the 2026 NEC effective September 1, 2026, applicants should follow the current state electrical requirement rather than assuming the older locally listed NEC controls electrical work.
Permits and inspections
The Permit Center publishes residential and commercial permit guides and a common-inspection guide. Inspections for permitted projects must be requested by the general contractor and can be scheduled through Building Safety or Citizen Self-Service. Required reinspection fees must be paid before a reinspection can be scheduled.
Fees, occupancy and professional requirements
Fees and final approvals depend on the project and permit type; no generic plan-check percentage or review-time estimate is stated. Texas licensing and sealing rules apply when regulated architectural or engineering services are required, but this page does not treat professional seals as universal for every Edinburg permit.
