Building Permits in Round Rock
Round Rock's Planning and Development Services / Building Inspection Division administers building permits and inspections. The City uses an online Permit Portal for applications and inspection scheduling.
When a permit is required
The City states that a building permit is required for construction, installation, alteration, repair, movement or demolition of a building or structure, for regulated electrical, gas, mechanical and plumbing work, and for a change of occupancy. Round Rock also uses a one-permit system in which relevant contractors are associated with the building permit.
Inspections and certificates of occupancy
Inspections are scheduled through the Permit Portal. Requests submitted by 4 p.m. are eligible for the following business day, but the City expressly states that availability is not guaranteed. Inspection requirements depend on the project.
The Building Inspection Division states that a Certificate of Occupancy is issued for newly constructed, remodeled or renovated space. A simple change of occupant with only cosmetic changes does not by itself result in a new Certificate of Occupancy.
Fees and review timing
Round Rock publishes permit-specific fee tables rather than one universal building-permit price. For the City's standalone-permit process, the published page gives an estimated issuance period of 3–5 business days after application acceptance. That estimate is not treated here as a deadline for every building-permit category.
State and professional requirements
Texas licensing and design-professional requirements depend on the trade, project type and statutory scope. This page does not state that every project requires an architect or engineer seal; applicants should confirm project-specific requirements with the City and the applicable Texas licensing authority.
