Building Permits in Hampton

Hampton's Development Services Center administers building permits and inspections. The City provides an Online Permits & Inspections Center for applications, inspection requests, status checks and fee payment.

Current code

Hampton states that the currently effective codes are the 2021 Virginia Construction Code and 2021 Virginia Residential Code. Virginia's statewide Uniform Statewide Building Code framework applies, together with project-specific local zoning and development requirements.

Permits, fees and inspections

The City publishes separate residential and commercial guidance and a fee schedule. Permit price varies with the circumstances of the project, so this guide does not substitute a generic valuation percentage or fee range.
