Building Permits in Bellevue

Bellevue Development Services administers building permits under Washington's state code framework and Bellevue amendments.

Current Codes

Bellevue states that it adopted the 2021 I-Codes effective March 15, 2024. Plans must comply with the adopted codes plus Washington State amendments and City of Bellevue amendments.

The City states that the 2023 National Electrical Code and 2023 Washington Cities Electrical Code became effective April 1, 2024. Bellevue also identifies the 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code with Washington amendments and Bellevue Municipal Code provisions.

Permit Review

Project requirements depend on permit type. Bellevue's own land-use decisions emphasize that complete building-code review occurs with the building-permit application and that plans must comply with the codes in effect for the application. Preliminary land-use approval is not itself building-permit approval.
