Permits, review and inspections
The City says building permits are required for new construction, alterations and improvements, reconstruction and temporary tent events, with approved plans required before permit issuance. Its current published processing time for building permits is approximately one week once all required information is received. The City separately notes that some shed, driveway and fence reviews may take 1–2 weeks and can take longer with volume; these are current operational estimates, not statutory guarantees.
Green Bay publishes a project-specific permit guide and fee schedule, with permit-guide fees stated to take effect January 1, 2026. Because charges vary by project, no generic fee percentage is substituted here.
The City requires construction inspections after permits are issued and publishes inspection types by discipline. Wisconsin contractor certification requirements apply in specified residential circumstances; owner/occupant rules differ, so applicants should check the current City and Wisconsin DSPS requirements.
